Sulfur--S

Sulfur, when found in its pure form, is a powdery yellow solid that has been know since ancient times. It is the sixteenth element on the periodic table, with an atomic mass of 32.066. It forms polyatomic ions, including sulfate (SO4) and sulfite (SO3). Sulfur is present in some amino acids, and therefore was used in DNA research in the mid 20th century. S melts at 392.2 K and boils at 717.82 K. Sulfur's electronegativity is 2.58, and its electron configuration is [Ne]3s2p4. The density of S is 2.07.
